Lauren Kaminsky Goldman, also known as the GoldGirl, has been involved in multiple facets of the jewelry world. Her career has covered businesses ranging from blogger to curator to, most uniquely, pawnbroker.
Lauren’s love for treasure hunting began at her grandfather’s pawn shops where she would sift through trays of jewelry to find unique pieces and pretend to negotiate the best deals with the staff. She was taught how to properly value gold and diamonds, along with developing an appreciation for the craftsmanship of fine jewelry. Now, as a third-generation pawnbroker, Lauren has elevated to Chief Operating Officer and President of EZ Pawn Corp., overseeing 15 stores, and working alongside her father/CEO, David, and brother, Jason. She has worked hard to grow the business as well as to educate the public about pawn-broking in hopes of altering negative stereotypes from past generations.
GoldGirl’s biggest career move to date occurred when she ventured into the hospitality world. In 2011, Tao Group opened Beauty & Essex in New York City with a faux pawnshop retail store at its entrance. In collaborating with the group, Lauren became curating partner of the retail storefront under the name ByGoldGirl, and is where she decks out cases with jewelry and curiosities to astound guests before they discover the glamorous restaurant right behind the “pawn shop’s” back door. Diners can then revel in their newfound treasures by indulging in champagne and cuisine by celebrity chef, Chris Santos. It wasn’t long before Beauty & Essex applied their successful formula to a West Coast expansion, opening two more locations, one in Las Vegas and, most recently, in Hollywood.
Outside of her day jobs, Lauren has spent years being active on the Board of Directors for the National Pawn Association. She has also recently teamed up with the Girls Inc. of NYC to sponsor the donation of gently-worn jewelry to those who can use a boost of confidence and empowerment. Lauren looks forward to expanding her brand to other corners of the jewelry world and to be a well-respected voice within the fine jewelry community for many years.
