Your NPA Board of Directors is comprised of pawn professionals dedicating their time and expertise, which is ultimately a vital part of NPA’s success. Board member leaders are all volunteers committed to bringing their very best to the industry they serve.

Johnny Whiteside

Johnny and his wife, Tara, own and operate Kendale Pawn Shop in Sanford, NC. The store was opened by Tara’s father, Jimmy Johnson, in 1980, and Johnny has been running the store full time since 1986. A member of the North Carolina Pawnbroker Association for many years, he has served on the board in many capacities, including President multiple times. Johnny and Tara have been married for 33 years and have twin daughters, Rebecca and Katie, and five grandchildren.

Boyd Naylor

Boyd is President and co-owner of Bali Credit Corporation which operates five stores in the San Antonio area. Prior to founding the company in 2000, he practiced law in El Paso, TX, for 15 years. Boyd is a member of the State Bar of Texas and served on the Texas Association of Pawnbrokers Board of Directors. Boyd also served as chair of the NPA Government Relations Committee for the NPA and currently serves as NPA President. Boyd is married to Alison, whose family has been in the pawn business for over 50 years. They have been married for 32 years and have three sons – Brooks, Jared, and Reagan.

Bill Dawson

As CEO of LDPM, Inc, Bill developed the Picasso Pawn brand consolidating 10 individually named pawn stores and seven different companies into one cohesive unit. He started in the pawn business almost 30 years ago as something to do “in between opportunities” and never left. Bill and his wife, Heidi, love to travel and a have a cat named Kiki. Bill is a graduate of East Carolina University and the GIA Diamonds and Diamond Grading program. He is also an avid Carolina Hurricanes fan. In his free time, Bill can be found either on the golf course or practicing his game.

Lisa Little

Lisa Little has been a passionate member of the pawn industry since 1987 and was the first woman in the nation to become a Certified Pawn Professional®. After attending the University of Georgia, she and her father co-founded a chain of four pawn shops, along with numerous other businesses. In 2013, Lisa became CEO and Managing Member of all of the family businesses. In her spare time Lisa loves spending time with her daughters, Victoria and Alexandria, homeschooling, traveling, and serving as a Bible class teacher and youth education coordinator. She also loves genealogy, Agatha Christie and all things Jane Austen.

Michael Goldstein

Michael Goldstein is the owner of Empire Loan, an eight-store pawn chain, operating in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Originally from New York, he is a third-generation pawnbroker. Michael founded Empire Loan in 1985 and claims to be the first fully computerized pawn store in the northeast. Through the Empire Loan Charitable Foundation, founded in 2012, he and his staff have contributed over $360,000 to local non-profits. He and his wife, Allison, live in Concord, MA, with their three children.

Kristen Williams

Kristen has a background in association management, publishing and conference/event planning. Prior to joining the NPA, Kristen served as Executive Director of the Independent Equipment Dealers Association for 12 years. Kristen began her career with Miller Freeman, a publishing firm in NYC where she initially worked in advertising and ultimately held the role of Marketing Manager for three different industry trade publications. Kristen now resides just outside Rochester, NY with her three teenage daughters.

Beth Anundi

Beth Anundi, alongside her husband Adam, founded, owns, and operates Capital Pawn in Salem, OR. As first-generation pawn brokers, they have raised their kids to love and work in the industry as second-generation pawnbrokers! Beth graduated from Oregon State University with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master of Arts in Teaching. After 16 years of teaching at the college level, she is now enjoying helping others in the pawn world. Beth currently serves on the Oregon Pawn Association Board. Adam and Beth have been married for 26 years and have three grown children.

Tim Collier

Tim Collier owns and operates Pacer, Ltd., which he opened in 1990. He has more than 40 years of experience in the jewelry and pawn business. Tim is currently President of the Arkansas Pawnbrokers Association, a position he has held for 15 years. Tim is an active member of the NPA, serving as President, member of the Board of Directors, the GRC Committee and various offices at the national level. Collier was named “Pawnbrokers of the Year” 2006 and 2015 for his dedication to the industry. Tim lives in Hot Springs with his wife Lisa and they have three sons. He enjoys his time with his family and playing golf.

Robert Barnett

Robert is the owner of Elk River Trading Company in Tennessee and specializes in firearms, jewelry, and pre-owned luxury handbags. He is a second-generation pawnbroker who has worked in the industry for nearly 30 years. Robert is a past president of the Alabama Pawnbrokers Association and currently serves as Vice President of the Tennessee Pawnbrokers Association. Robert is a General Class Amateur Radio Operator and lives with three senior rescue dachshunds in Huntsville, Alabama.

Randi Butterfield

Randi is a second generation pawnbroker who has been working full time in the industry since she graduated from USU in 2009. They have 2 locations in the Salt Lake area. Randi brought her husband Trent into the business. Now they love working together with their parents on growing the 2 stores. When they are not traveling they are spending time with their 2 dogs. 

Jay Dunbar

Superior Pawn Company
Hampton, VA

Jay is the owner of Superior Pawn & Gun, with a pawn shop, gun shop and shooting range, in Hampton, VA. He came to pawn in 2009 through his brother. He also serves as the president of the Virginia Pawnbrokers Association. Jay holds an MBA from Auburn University. He and his wife of 38 years, Rita, have two daughters, Kelly and Chelsea, who work with Jay.

David Ehrlich

City Pawn Shop
Montgomery, AL

David is a third generation pawnbroker who has worked full time in the pawn business since 2012. He is the General Manager of City Pawn Shop, a family business that has been operational since 1943. Currently, David serves on the Board of Directors for the Alabama Pawnbrokers Association. Outside of the pawn industry he serves as the Troop Committee Chairman for Boy Scout Troop 25 in Prattville, Alabama, and on the Camping and Outdoor Program Committee for the Tukabatchee Area Council. David lives in Montgomery, Alabama with his wife Erica and two sons – Treyton and Huck.

Perry Lewin

Decatur Jewelry and Pawn
Decatur, IL

Perry is the owner and operator of Decatur Jewelry & Pawn in Decatur, Illinois. A third-generation jeweler, Perry merged his extensive expertise in the jewelry industry with the pawn business to grow Decatur Jewelry & Pawn into one of the largest and most respected retail jewelry stores in the area. He is an active member of the NPA and has been a huge advocate for pawn at both the state and federal levels.

Christopher McCarthy

Lowell, MA

Christopher is the owner and CEO of Lowell Pawn located in Lowell, Massachusetts. Prior to establishing his company in 2006, he graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology and was a registered Professional Engineer, spending 30 years managing multi-million-dollar large construction projects around the globe. He and his wife, Karen have been married for 36 years and live on Cape Cod after raising two young men, Bryce and Colton.

Scott Paulsen

Scott and his wife Rita are the owners and founders of Peninsula Pawn. They have been in the pawn industry since 2006 and currently have three locations throughout Delaware. Scott has served on the Board of the National Pawnbrokers Association in prior years and is an active member of the NPA Membership Committee. Scott is an active member of his church. He and Rita have two children, April and Troy, and two grandchildren, Lyndsey and Seth, who both work in the family business.

Jeremy Powell

Jeremy Powell is a third-generation pawnbroker and owner of BJ Pawn & Gun in Denham Springs, LA. He is president of the Louisiana Pawnbrokers Association and an active member of NPA’s Young Professionals Pawnbroker Peer Group. He also serves on NPA’s Young Professionals Committee and Pawn Expo Convention Committee. He lives in Louisiana with his wife Brittany and their three sons.

Kerry Rainey

Bayou Pawn
Hammond, LA

Kerry Rainey is the owner of Bayou Pawn & Jewelry, founded in 1988. Bayou Pawn has five locations located in south Louisiana. He is a 2nd generation pawnbroker and is an experienced jeweler with 39 years on the bench. He currently has served as a Board member of the Louisiana Pawnbrokers Association for 35 years where during this time he has served as Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President and President. Kerry has been a member of the National Pawnbrokers Association since 2001. There he has served on the Board of the National Pawnbrokers Association as a Chair of the Membership Committee, Chair of the NPA Convention Committee, Chair of the Awards Committee, the Secretary, Vice President, and President. Kerry has been married to his wife, Sharman, for 35 years and has three sons. Two of his sons work alongside in business with him.
 

Scott Tiemann

Scott Tiemann got his start in the pawn world in 1994 as an SLA for a very successful pawnbroker in Southern California. In 2000, he was fortunate enough to come across an old-time pawnbroker who wanted to retire. Scott bought his store, and the rest is history.  He now owns three stores. Scott joined the board of the California Pawnbrokers Association in 2015. In 2017 he was asked to join the executive committee and have since served as Treasurer and Secretary.  He is excited to join the NPA board and learn more about pawn across the country. 

Anthony Vanegas

Houston, TX

Anthony Vanegas, a lifelong pawnbroker, entered the pawn industry at the young age of 13 and hasn’t stopped since. He ultimately opened his own chain of shops (Sunbelt Pawn Jewelry & Loan) in the Houston & DFW areas of Texas. His business was named “Best of the Best Pawnshop in Houston.” Anthony looks forward to serving the NPA for years to come as a way to give back to the people and organizations he has benefited immensely from throughout his career.

Jeff Wilhelm

National Jewelry & Pawn
Raleigh, NC

Jeff is the Director of Store Operations for National Pawn & Jewelry, with 23 locations across North Carolina. He has been in the pawn industry for 35 years and frequently serves as a speaker and presenter at industry events. Additionally, Jeff leads an NPA Pawnbroker Peer Group each month.
